Cycling and Cooking
Scott and I biked around a neighbouring island this morning. The temperature has dropped to a much cooler 24 -28 degrees. We biked through rice paddies and local villages where the kids were playing. They were really cute yelling hello and giving us high 5s. One was wearing a Ronaldo shirt and when Scott mentioned Ronaldo they all imitated his signature “Siuuu” celebration.
The afternoon was a tour which started in the food market, paddling basket boats and trying to catch crabs. The crabs seemed very uninterested in the pork fat bait, running away when we dangled it in front of them. The only successful catch was our guide who scooped the crab up in her hands. She was also harvesting little snails from the banks to eat herself later.
Then onto the cooking class which was a lot of fun. We made papaya salad with tofu and quail eggs, cau loa with chicken, rice pancakes with oyster mushrooms and grilled eggplant with peanut dressing. It was a lot of fun and the we got to sit down to eat it all. The chef also brought us little bananas cooked in sugar as our dessert.
