Hoi An to Hue

Our driver picked us up at 9am after another great buffet breakfast.  We took the scenic route via the Hai Van Pass which translates as Ocean Cloud pass.  It’s a steep road that winds to a gate (former stronghold used to defend ancient kingdoms).

We have checked into the very luxurious Vinpearl hotel. It towers above the Hue skyline and the rooms are spacious and beautifully done.  I could get used to this!

We are walked down to check out the imperial citadel.  This is the old seat of the monarchy and it’s large and lavish.  Situated on the banks of the perfume river it’s got a moat and two stone walls. Inside is a series of palaces, temples, gardens, lakes and official buildings.

Hue itself is quite elegant, especially along the Perfume river.

We are accosted by people selling sunset cruises but we ignore them and go looking for beer and dinner (pork lemongrass kebabs and spring rolls).  We are home by 7 and head up to the indoor pool for a late night swim.
